Faculty who are eligible:
  • are Members of the Academic Council;
  • have 100% academic council appointment and are working 100% FTE;
  • have term appointments of 3 years or more with the possibility of reappointment, or have received tenure, or have an appointment with a continuing term1;
  • are First-time homebuyers2;
  • have attended an Open House for the homes in the lottery; and
  • do not have a reservation or a contract on a single-family home in another FSH Housing Lottery (This rule does not apply to participants who have a reservation or a contract on a condominium home in another FSH Housing Lottery)


  1. Appointment must be approved by the President; additionally the appointment date and start date must be not more than sixty (60) days after the date the purchase transaction closes (close of escrow or COE).
  2. First-time homebuyer is someone, including spouses and registered domestic partners, who has never had an ownership interest in a single-family home within the Qualifying Area in the past 3 years prior to receipt of a written offer of employment from Stanford.

This lottery will comprise of 1 single-family home located in the College Terrace neighborhood of Palo Alto, CA.

The home is subject to a Stanford Restricted Residential Ground Lease, and Stanford is selling these leasehold interests through a random number drawing (lottery).

This home is being sold via lottery “As-Is”.

Restricted Ground Lease

These homes are subject to the Stanford Restricted Residential Ground Lease (Restricted Lease). The Restricted Lease program is designed to help address the challenge of finding affordable housing in Stanford and surrounding cities. By restricting certain rights of lessees, the University is able to offer long-term leasehold interests at significantly less than the cost of either a conventional leasehold interest or fee ownership of an otherwise comparable home.
